Healthy Heart

Heart health is so important especially in the society we live in today and the American diet. Many of the things below can be used to help increase heart health, but they are also good to take cyclically or as often as you’d like to help protect your heart. This does not mean that as long as you take your fish oil everyday, you can go and eat as many greasy burgers as you want and it not have any impact on your heart health. If you are on any prescription heart medications, you should ask your doctor or a pharmacist before taking any of these supplements. Personally, I do not have any heart health concerns, but with being a Type 1 Diabetic, I want to prevent any possible issues in the future. I do not take all these products listed on a daily basis, but I do cycle through a few of them at least once a year Natural Supplements: Ubiquinol - Also known as the more bioavailable form of CoQ10 and is good for overall heart health and can assist medication or statins in lowering chole...

Headaches and Migraines

I’ve seen a lot of questions out there about headaches lately. This actually used to be a huge issue for me.       Many of the following supplements are herbs. Herbs should not be taken with medications, prescription or over the counter, because herbs can be very interactive with different chemicals especially if they are focusing on the same ailment. Here is an example to make this more clear. If I am going to take Ibuprofen, I don’t want to take butterbur, feverfew, or ginger during the 6 or so hours Ibuprofen would be active in my body. If you have any questions about taking natural supplements and you are on prescription medications, I recommend you ask your doctor or a pharmacist before taking them. The natural supplements and life tips that are well known for helping headaches and migraines are as follows: Natural Supplements: Butterbur - This herb helps alleviate inflammation and tension which oftentimes cause headaches or migraines. Usual...

Supplements for Anxiety

Most people get anxious every now and then. I’ve been planning my wedding for the past year and as the day got closer, my stress was out of control. Using some of the products below helped tremendously. If you are one of those unlucky individuals like me who suffers from daily anxiety, here are some things that could help! Natural Supplements: B complex - This information is also in my Allergies post . B Vitamins focus mainly on the nervous system. They also assist with energy production, stress response, and sleep quality. Who wouldn’t want to increase those? B Vitamins are one of my personal favorite supplements to take. The B vitamin I fell in love with a long time ago is by the Vitamin Shoppe Brand . B vitamins are water soluble which means that you can take as high a dose as you want and your body will absorb what is needed and flush out the rest. I wouldn’t recommend taking an insanely high amount though because they get flushed out through your kidneys and you don’t want t...

Vitamin Intro

Vitamins Intro: I want to give my readers some basic information on the vitamins and their benefits along with what foods they are found in. I plan to go vitamin by vitamin because there are a lot of them and I don’t want to overwhelm you guys with one really big post. I'll start with Vitamin A. Vitamin A: This is a fat soluble vitamin which means that it is stored in the liver and the body does not flush it out quickly. Vitamin A’s food based form is Beta-Carotene which is safer to take because it is less likely to overdose on at high doses. This vitamin is often used to help with eye health, immune system, skin, and other systems in the body. It is known for helping with night vision. Vitamin A is high in carrots along with sweet potatoes, kale, spinach, broccoli, and eggs. Vitamin A is also an antioxidant which fights against free radicals. Free radicals are unstable oxygen molecules that can ultimately cause cancer and wreak havoc on the body. There is more to come! Thank you...

A Short Story

You ever feel depressed suddenly? And you know it is most likely due to stress or anxiety and you just don’t want to do anything but think about the problems you face or long list of things you have to accomplish in a short period of time? I’m sure most people run into this feeling at some point during their lives. I know I have. I remember a customer who came into the supplement store I worked at who was running into this quite often one year. This person was going through a lot in their life at that time. They told me they were feeling down in the dumps and even though they knew they had a lot to do, they didn’t have the motivation to begin those tasks. They knew this wasn’t how they usually felt and they didn’t like feeling this way.  Right away, I knew what was going on. I confirmed with them that they were feeling extremely stressed and started feeling more depressed as of late and recommended they start taking an amino acid called 5-HTP. It is a form of L-Tryptoph...

Introductions

My name is Ahri Evelyn and I’m sharing my knowledge of health and wellness because health and wellness is life. My life. Your life. Everyone’s lives. I’ve always wanted to help people and share my knowledge with others to help them be healthy and well. My life of health and wellness started at age 2 when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. From then on, my goal in life was to stay healthy and feel good. Even when I was that young, I would ask the adults in my life giving me food if it has “oogur” in it. Of course everyone thought it was adorable, but even at a young age, I was thinking of my own health and wellness. Down the line, in high school, I was put on antidepressants due to anxiety and depression. A few years later, in my first year of college, I started working at a supplement store and began learning everything I could about anything I could get my hands on at the store. I learned about all the vitamins, minerals, several, if not all the other natural supplements...
